Living to Work!

As I'm sitting here writing this blog from my 25sqft cubical I began to wonder who grows up saying, "Man, I can't wait to get myself a job with a fixed 9-5 schedule for the rest of my life 'till I retire!" I know I never said such a thing...Ok, I know everybody who does work a 9-5 does it because they have bills to pay. It's a guaranteed paycheck as long as you don't lose your job. But is it really worth it? Is a guaranteed paycheck worth the miserable routine we put ourselves through every Monday-Friday, and for some harder workers Monday-Saturday! Now I know some of you might say I need a new job but no. I like my job, my coworkers, and most of all my paychecks which seem to vanish 17x faster than I get them.
The problem is I spend more time at work than I do anywhere else! Think about it...it takes, on average, 30 minutes to get ready, about 30 minutes to get to work, and about 45 minutes to get home after work. Throw in those punishing 8 hours, don't forget your lunch hour, and you've got 10 hours and 45 minutes of time dedicated to work. That leaves 13 hours and 15 minutes. Factor in 8 (never enough) hours of sleep and that leaves you with 5 hours and 15 minutes of "free" time... Anyone seeing this here?? That's right, we're Living to Work!!


Side note: Being only 24, I don't know if I can continue this routine for another 45 years 'till I retire...or better yet, IF I can retire!
